Sphere - Serpentine Quartz from Pacific Northwest - 3 InchesGlacier Ridge
Serpentine & Quartz - Pacific Northwest Sphere. Rock was collected on a beach in Clallam County and formed in our rock shop at Glacier Ridge in Montana. As a point of interest, I fell into the surf collecting the massive mother rock but all was forgiven when the sphere took a wonderful polish and the quartz cleared to fully transparent. No name other then we called the two identical Serpentines from the mother-rock, The Twins. Measures just a tad over 3 inches in diameter and weighs 2 lbs 3 ozs.
The Geological Explanation: Serpentine, particularly Washington ocean beach Serp is a rock consisting almost wholly of grouped minerals derived from the hydration of ferromagnesian silicate minerals such as olivine and pyroxene. Most serpentines are opaque to translucent, light with a specific gravity between 2.2–2.9, it's on the soft-side (2.5–4), infusible and susceptible to acids - don't clean with vinegar. All are microcrystalline and never found as single crystal forms. Luster may be vitreous, greasy or silky. Colors range from white to grey, yellow to green, and brown to black, and are often splotchy or veined. Many are intergrown with other minerals, such as calcite, dolomite or quartz.
The Mystical Explanation: Serpentine is said to attract what you desire in your life. Serpentine is said to attract wealth, abundance, promotes healing and love.
