Ruby in Quartz Kyanite sphere. Rock was found in Clallam County, WA and formed at the Glacier Ridge Rock Shop in Trego Montana. Our spheres are frequently named so we can keep track of what is what - this is Constellation. Sphere has zero cracks or defects and took a high shine. Stone is a pleasing mixture of darker ruby and a galaxy of quartz on one side and a lighter burgundy on the other. Sphere measures 3 inches in diameter, 11 inches in circumference and weighs 2 lbs 10 oz. Last picture is Constellation rough cut.
Kyanite is typically a blue aluminosilicate mineral. A metamorphic pegmatites and/or sedimentary rock. Kyanite in metamorphic rocks generally indicates pressures higher than four kilobars and is commonly found in quartz and occasionally in volcanic zones, with ruby (corundum).
