Longcraft Copper & Enamel Windmill WW2 Vintage Figural Brooch.  This brooch is part of a popular figural series made in the 1930s out of scrap copper. The pin is large and bright at 2 1/4 inches. The foliage is enamel and rhinestones flowers in perfect condition. All purple-toned rhinestones on the vanes are original and bright. The copper could be polished if desired. This was a highly popular use of tiny bits of scrap copper, a manufacturing "use it all" method created during WW2 when metals were scarce. These pieces were considered a reasonable and cost-effective "vermeil" look and to date have lasted as bright and shining examples of manufacturing ingenuity. There are a series of these well-made brooches that are desirable collectibles. The pin back on this piece is straight and strong, the clasp locks securely.  This piece may be attributed to Longcraft but was not in the verified collection pieces. The use of the floral leaves and branches matches Longcraft's Things We Use series.
