This faux violent dance was the rage of Paris from the very early 1900s through the late 1940s. Apache is pronounced Ah-pash and is named after the nickname given to the Parisian street gangs and their often wild behavior. Frequently performed in Cabarets and street festivals, this highly choreographed dance consisted of mandatory dance steps plus personal interpretation. The one and only unbreakable rule, neither party may be hurt during the spectacle. The women frequently fought back with laudable ferocity with various levels of success.
